Time to put up or shut up, I’m sick of waitin’ around This is the last call, then I’m puttin’ my pedal down You can’t call me selfish, and I won’t call you out For leaving me hangin’ Here I am, starting all over all over again I can’t stand starting all over all over again Time to shit or get off the pot; get behind me or get outta’ the way You know I’ll always love you, but I hate to say That you’ve got your direction, and you know that I have mine Instead of complaining Here I am, starting all over all over again Understand I’m starting all over all over again Circumstance has me starting all over all over again Here I am, starting all over all over again Time to get rollin’, are you out or in? You’re either gonna’ be with me, or this is the end You had a thousand chances, but you blew them all You’ve got three telephones, but never call You like working me up, just to leave me cold I ain’t givin’ up the ghost Here I am, starting all over all over again Understand I’m starting all over all over again Circumstance has me starting all over all over again Here I am, starting all over all over again All over all over again All over all over again All over all over again ©2011 J.H. Kiddin' Me 03:48
Can’t pull no wool over my eyes It’s so plain to see A cheap disguise, and little white lies Won’t get you very far with me Save some face and face on up To this heart you broke Runnin’ amok and outta’ luck Now you’re on the ropes (shoulda’ thought before you spoke…) Who do you think you’re foolin’? You change so easily Musta’ thought I was a shoe-in You’ve gotta’ be kiddin’ me Why do you do the things you do? Won’t you ever learn? No gasoline and a broken wing You’re gonna’ crash and burn You head to bed with anyone Who let’s you get your way Till you bore then they’re out the door Leave ‘em in disarray Who do you think you’re foolin’? You change so easily Musta’ thought I was a shoe-in You’ve gotta’ be kiddin’ me I think it’s time to wake up Time to cut your loss The show’s over, the credits roll Come down from the cross Your dreams are a man’s worst nightmare Wrapped in a skin-tight dress In low-light you look alright But the mornin’ uncovers the mess Who do you think you’re foolin’? You change so easily Musta’ thought I was a shoe-in You’ve gotta’ be kiddin’ me Who do you think you’re foolin’? serendipity whatcha’ think you’re provin’? You’ve gotta’ be kiddin’ me ©2011 J.H. Don’t assume I haven’t noticed things Don’t insist that nothing here has changed Don’t go acting like there’s nothing new Don’t put me on like you used to do You’ll never win this one Watchin’ you come undone You’ve got no place to run (and) You ain’t the same as you used to be You ain’t the same as you were Can’t deny these miles between us now Can’t sympathize cause I don’t know how Can’t ignore we’re totally different people Can’t believe I’m still standing here Don’t care if you agree I’ve waited patiently Sick of complacency (and) Things ain’t the same as they used to be Things ain’t the same as they were We ain’t the same but we live with it No real good explanation but we ain’t the same We ain’t the same… ©2011 J.H. I was an awkward teen when I first met you Saw you in the halls and we shared a class or two To you I was just another goofy looking boy In black t-shirts, black Chucks and corduroys Deep down my heart was a-pounding I was a live wire that needed a grounding But would I ever have the guts? It was driving me nuts I sat beside you and I tried to catch your eye Started talking and you thought I was an okay guy When we went driving I was ten feet tall Hangin’ out in the college town, and the mall Wrote you a poem and read it aloud You were my Venus from up in the clouds You didn’t seem to get the hint Might as well have said “get bent!” Surprise, surprise Look who’s come back into my life But I can’t figure out just why and how Surprise, surprise I’m older and more wise You didn’t want me then, and I don’t want you now So I finally made my move and confessed It felt all right but I never could’ve guessed That you’d shoot me down, right outta’ the sky, with some kinda’ tripe ‘Bout your daddy not approving ‘cuz I’m just not the right type That was pretty much the end of it Didn’t act like it bothered you one damned bit Left me standing in the rain Never spoke to me again Surprise, surprise Look who’s come back into my life But I can’t figure out just why and how Surprise, surprise I’m older and more wise You didn’t want me then, and I don’t want you now ©2011 J.H. You, make it so hard, so hard to see, so so hard to believe That what you’re doin’ to me, is done accidentally And you, like playing games, it’s all the same and you know to me it ain’t nothin’ new And it’s getting’ you nothin’ Can’t fake it, you know… You make it so hard So hard to let you go So hard So hard to say no Can’t take it You know you make it so hard You get me up, then knock me down Think you’re tough when you make me your clown I’ve had enough, enough of you Don’t let nobody else trample me the way that you do With all the fussin’ and cussin’, and fightin’ and such Seems like a touch, a touch too much I never ever let a woman do me in The rules they are a changin’, you know… You make it so hard So hard to let you go So hard So hard to say no Can’t take it You know you make it so hard Cut me down, it’s like a breath of fresh air When I look around and you’re not there Shook me up cause ya’ know you can Outta’ luck and I got no plan A vicious cycle I’m stuck in We’re both playin’ a game without a winner You gotta’ get it outta’ your head I’m finished, you see You make it so hard So hard to let you go So hard So hard to say no Can’t take it You know you make it so hard I see you’ve come to your senses and we both can agree To put an end to animosity What say we make nice and let’s hit the lights Drive each other crazy, you know… You make it so hard So hard to let you go So hard So hard to say no Can’t take it You know you make it so hard You make it so hard Too hard to stay, too hard to stray So hard I mean in every way Can’t take it You know you make it so hard ©2011 J.H. When I was a wild-eyed youth I knew to stand my ground I never followed & never led instead I simply hung around Had big ambitions of a life of rock-n-roll Disturbing visions, paralyzing fears of growing old Knew it wouldn’t be easy, might be hit & miss I had to keep that dream alive & stay full of vinegar & piss Fast forward through a decade, I was still an average guy A tax paying citizen, worked an honest 9-to-5 But on the weekends, man those were crazy nights Raising hell onstage and the occasional drunken fight It was only a matter of time, we’d do something with this Gotta’ keep that dream alive & stay full of vinegar & piss Wing-bars & wannabe stars made me realize What it’s about & what it’s not Juke-box cover-bands, dirty money changing hands In that crooked scene you don’t have a shot When vinegar & piss is all you’ve got Here we are in the present day & I haven’t given in Found a new direction by simply going back again Back to the golden age when it was all still fun We played to play & didn’t care about pleasing anyone I’ll disregard the naysayers & their blissful ignorance That dream is strong as ever & I’m still full of vinegar & piss Yes, that dream is still alive & well, and I’m still full of vinegar & piss ©2011 J.H. You want my conversation You’re givin’ me nothing Nothing but pain I’ve got my inclination I’m gonna be walking Walking away IT’S NOT SO BAD IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD WE KNOW OF IT’S NOT AS BAD AS YOUR HAND-ME-DOWN LOVE I have my hesitations It’s gonna be alright I’m gonna’ be fine And with these reservations Won’t gimme’ affection Won’t gimme’ no time IT’S NOT SO BAD I’VE SEEN THE WORST OF THE THINGS FROM ABOVE IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD YOU KNOW I’M TIRING OF I DON’T WANT YOUR HAND-ME-DOWN LOVE Just want a confirmation Gimme’ an answer Why dontcha’ gimme’ a chance T’ru all this tribulation I’m gonna’ be singin’ I’m gonna’ be dancin’ IT’S NOT SO BAD I’VE SEEN THE WORST OF THE THINGS FROM ABOVE IT’S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD YOU KNOW I’M TIRING OF I DON’T WANT YOUR HAND-ME-DOWN LOVE ©2011 J.H. At first glance she was outta’ this world Had a certain je ne sais quois compared to all the other girls It didn’t take long to find, that she was outta’ her mind That little voice in my head started yelling, telling me I’d better watch my behind (‘cause) She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, every day you see a little more showing She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, she doesn’t know if she’s coming or going now One day she’s married and the next she’s on her own Then she’s with someone for a couple of days but then she’s all alone Thought she was quite nice, but something said to think twice That little voice in my head got louder sayin’ “boy, here’s a piece of advice” She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, it’s very easy to see She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, that ain’t where you wanna’ be She says she’s through with him, and sends him on his way Twelve hours later she’s kissin’ him on her social page So there you have it, it’s time for me to go Is she for real or is it all just for show Regardless of which, and regardless of my itch That little voice in my head was right I’m getting away from this bitch She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, I think it speaks for itself She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, you’re better off anywhere else She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, or couldn’t you tell She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man, and it’s scary as hell She’s gotta’ lotta’ baggage, man (repeat) ©2011 J.H. Well hello! How ya’ doin’? It’s been a few years And those years have been kind if I may say so dear My mind’s already thinking dirty things But I’m puttin’ on my angel wings I should be a good boy and show some respect But dressed like you are what do you expect? Patience’s virtue isn’t as fun as the sin Here I go lookin’ like a fool again Guess I’m just a glutton for your punishment By the time I’ve came you’ve already went Pickin’ up the pieces and cleanin’ up your mess Makin’ you promises under duress Don’t you know? Don’t you know? You flipped me upside down, but I’ll wait a little longer for you You turned me inside out, but I’ll wait a little longer for you You got me pacin’ back and forth like a dog on a fence Waggin’ my tail when I catch your scent Got me droolin’ when you ring your bell Rattlesnake baby, keep shakin’ your tail Never knew what the blues were until I met you There’s a part of me that’s especially blue Try to act cool but I give myself away I’ve been waiting for this all day Up till now I never thought I was a masochist Let you rule with your velvet glove on an iron fist It’s getting’ late and I really should be getting’ home Don’t you think you should throw me a bone? My, my, my… Tell me why? You flipped me upside down, but I’ll wait a little longer for you You turned me inside out, but I’ll wait a little longer for you Got me climing the walls, but I’ll wait a little longer for you Tryin’ not to fall, but I’ll wait a little longer for you Whatcha’ think that you’re tryin’ to do? Got me doin’ everything that you want me to Aintcha’ happy havin’ me at your beck and call? Aintcha’ happy when you and me’s havin’ a ball??? You flipped me upside down, but I’ll wait a little longer for you You turned me inside out, but I’ll wait a little longer for you Got me climing the walls, but I’ll wait a little longer for you Tryin’ not to fall, but I’ll wait a little longer for you ©2011 J.H. Maybe the beginning is the best place to begin I’m callin’ you collect from the pay phone of the county pen I thought I could fix it all before you caught wind Can’t go blamin’ this one all upon an evil twin You know I need you there sometimes to kick me on the shin Sorry Jen I’ve been a bad boy again I know this kinda’ thing can get under your skin You get so sick of wond’rin where the hell I’ve been Doesn’t do us any good to sit here and pretend I’m fessin’ up and I admit she’s more than just a friend Should’ve never hooked up with that girl I knew back then Sorry Jen I’ve been a bad boy again I got carried away once more, much to your chagrin I insist on playing games I know I’ll never win I’m always looking for another rule that I can bend Jen I know I’m the one to blame for the trouble I’m in Here I stand before you humbled, tryin’ to make amends Can’t help but stand here with this (dumb shiteatin’/stupidlooking) grin Ain’t enough time on earth for all the wounds to mend If you ever leave I know my life would surely end Sorry Jen I’ve been a bad boy again ©2011 J.H. When you were a little girl, you had hopes and dreams Anything was possible it seemed All these dreams came crashing down, Prince Charming wasn’t there Nobody seemed to care Daddy wasn’t home that much and things got out of hand Mommy couldn’t rein you in and didn’t understand Got in with the wrong crowd and somehow lost control And not long after that you lost your soul And now, you’re dead on the inside Just a shadow of your former self Now, you’re dead on the inside You’ve become somebody else First it was some cheap wine, then the cigarettes Then it was unprotected sex Could’ve stopped at Mary Jane, and kept your sanity But now you’re hooked on methamphetamine Older men had money and sometimes a warm bed And you had an addiction just crying to be fed Simply takin’ off your clothes ain’t payin’ quite enough And you know men will pay for other stuff And now, you’re dead on the inside You say there ain’t no turnin’ back Now, you’re dead on the inside You say it’s what it is, and that’s that Here’s your one and only chance, be it fate of happenstance Make your move, there’s no excuse to wait You don’t have to live like this, don’t have to put yourself at risk Let’s run like hell before it’s too late Hoped I could convince you, but I must’ve failed Your train is just too far derailed If you change your mind tomorrow here’s where I can reached I promise not to judge and not to preach Before I leave I’m gonna’ walk you to your door Now you have a reason not to do this anymore I hope you really think about all the things I’ve said You need to quit while you’re ahead And now, you’re dead on the inside And it’s just a matter of time Now, you’re dead on the inside And the outside ain’t that far behind ©2011 J.H. Lane, All Rights Reserved

about

After trudging away in a lackluster cover band in 2009 and then putting his band LOCKBOX on ice in late 2010, Upstate SC guitarist/singer/songwriter Heath Lane began working on a series of home studio recordings that would mark a resurrection of his creativity and his love of music in general. This is the self-recorded, self-produced, no-frills, no-filler and no studio-magic result of those recordings.

about

Heath Lane

Heath Lane embraces the truest spirit of rock by being unafraid of speaking his mind at the risk of going against the grain. His lyrical method is often both clever and cynical, often striking a nerve or two with subject matter, and partners with irresistible hooks and melodies executed unlike any other.
